96" Wide, 30 Yard Roll, 6 os., 1/4" Loft. Resin bonded batting is garnetted and then sprayed with a "resin" which bonds any two touching fibers together. Features reduced bearding, no shrinkage, machine washable, and is excellent for machine quilting.

Hobbs Heirloom® Wool is quickly becoming Hobbs most sought after batting, because of its soft and luxurious feel. Heirloom® Wool is a light weight, breathable batting that is great to cover up with. Wool generally breathes better than other fibers and acts as a natural insulator helping to maintain comfort in the summer and/or the winter. Hobbs wool batting is made with the finest washable wool in the world. It is resin bonded to provide added durability and resist bearding and migration. This wool is exceptionally easy to quilt by hand or machine and can be quilted up to 4" apart. Quilts made with this premium batting can be washed by machine (gentle cycle) or by hand. This batting has been endorsed and developed by Harriet Hargrave.

What is Resin Bonded?

Resin bonded batting is made made from a wide variety of fibers including polyester, cotton, wool, etc. A web is garnetted or carded then passed through a process that applies a resin to both sides. The web is dried and cured to form a bonded batting. This bonded batting resists bearding better than any other type of batting. There are many different types of fiber and resin combinations to give a desired “look” and “hand”. Combining processes, fibers and resins makes the resin bonded process the most versatile and most effective way to produce battings.

This premier cotton batting has been carded, crosslapped, and needlepunched to produce the finest of all cotton batting on the market today. Hobbs Heirloom® Black is recommend for dark colored quilts. This batting offers more loft and less weight than traditional cotton battings. It is made with 80% natural cotton & 20% fine polyester and is dyed black to provide quilters a dark batting that will not show through a dark quilt top. It is needle punched and spray bonded to provide exceptional strength and durability. Great for both hand or machine quilting. Shrinkage of 3-5% and may be quilted up to 4” apart.

What does Needle Punched mean?

This type of batting is carded or garnetted then layered to form a web. The web is then passed through needling equipment that mechanically entangles the web by using thousands of needles that lock the fiber together. This type of product works to give strength to a product while allowing for a soft hand and thinner profile vs. a high loft type product. Needle punched wool or polyester tend to migrate, but will not bunch or shift like plain garnetted or carded products. Needle punched products can be thermal bonded or resin bonded.

Hobbs Heirloom® Bleached Cotton is 100% Bleached Cotton and is recommend for light colored quilts. Their Heirloom® Bleached is made the same way as their Heirloom® Natural, needle punched for additional strength, except they use bleached cotton to provide quilters a white batting that will not show through a lighter quilt top. Shrinkage of 3-5% and may be quilted up to 4” apart.
